Injectables in the Greater Charlotte Area

As we age, many changes occur that cause us to look older. Our skin loses its elasticity, and we begin to develop fine lines and wrinkles that are especially noticeable on our faces. In addition, the face tends to lose the fat tissue that creates its youthful plumpness, which leads to the formation of hollows and other contour irregularities. As these conditions worsen, many men and women begin feeling self-conscious about looking older than they feel.

Injectables Treatment

Injectables provide patients with a more youthful and rested appearance by improving the following conditions:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Deep lines on the forehead
  • Deep creases and folds
  • Hollows
  • Shallow contours
  • Recessed scars
  • Thin lips

The Procedure

Injectable formulas are strategically injected into the targeted areas with a small needle. The injections only take a few minutes per site, and the entire treatment process is usually complete within 15 to 60 minutes.

A consultation with a board-certified surgeon like Dr. Loflin can help determine if injectables are right for you.

Injectable Neurotoxins

Neurotoxins or neuromodulators in the cosmetic world refer to substances that temporarily disrupt the normal function of the nerves to specific targeted muscles.  These toxins are proteins that come from Clostridium botulinum species which produce Botulinum toxin.  These toxins block the signals of these nerves to the muscles targeted, causing relaxation and preventing them from causing wrinkles and fine lines for a few months. Neurotoxins are most commonly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face, particularly in areas like the forehead, around the eyes, and in the neck.  But can also be used for medical purposes like, headaches, TMJ pain, overactive bladder, and hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating. Some of the most common neurotoxins are listed below.

Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid Fillers

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring molecule found throughout the body, mainly in skin and joints. It helps to provide structural support and hydration to the skin because of its ability to retain water, making it the ideal ingredient for plumping, moisturizing and reducing the appearance of wrinkles in skin. There are several hyaluronic acid gel fillers on the market, each with specific properties that enable their use for different treatment areas and specific volumizing needs. Which type of HA filler and techniques used to help achieve aesthetic goals combines science and art, so will often vary depending on the provider. The amount of time the fillers stay in the body depends on certain qualities of the products themselves, the patient’s individual metabolism and the treatment areas. Below are some of the most common HA fillers.

Other (Non-hyaluronic acid) Fillers

Sculptra® Aesthetic

Sculptra® Aesthetic is the first injectable that provides subtle, natural-looking results over time. Made from poly-L-lactic acid, this injectable works deep within the dermis to gradually replace lost collagen, improve shallow to deep nasolabial wrinkles and folds, and provide a more refined, youthful appearance. Results from Sculptra® Aesthetic can last more than two years.

RADIESSE® Volumizing Filler

RADIESSE® Volumizing Filler is made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel that plump the skin to provide instant results. RADIESSE® Volumizing Filler is the most common CaHA injectable formula and effectively improves the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, including smile lines, marionette lines, lines at the corners of the mouth, hollows in the pre-jowl area, and chin wrinkles.
